One of my fellow writer friends brought this news story to my attention. It is by far the most ludicrous thing I have seen in a while.
There I go again, turning my son gay. Not only have I painted his toenails, pink even. I have also played salon with him, given him dolls, and let him dress up in girl clothes. What I wonder is why he is still so into stereotypical boy things. You would think after all of my 'brainwashing' he would not turn every possible toy into a gun.
I just don't understand it. For some reason my son still loves bugs, ninja toys, and pretend bow hunting. Come to think of it, when I was little I played with dirt. How is it that I am not a lesbian? This is all so puzzling to me! :)
Great post! It's ridiculous that people are causing such a fuss over this.
ReplyDeleteYeah, isn't that silly. I was a tomboy growing up, climbing trees and having mud-ball fights. How is it that I'm not a lesbian?

Most of our little friends are boys - makes it a little tough to a have playdate at my house of 3 girls. The other day one boy came downstairs for dress up time dressed in a wonder woman costume - the other one had his toe nails painted pink glitter. My daughter was wearing superman - boy are we moms messed up I guess because we laughed and then took pictures!
ReplyDeleteLol, this is definitely a lot of fuss over nothing!
ReplyDeleteOne of the best classes I took in college was out of Post University called Gender, Sex and Socialization. It was eye opening to see how the words we use, and the expectations we have based upon somebody's gender are so messed up. I love John Mayer's song, Daughters, because it puts things in perspective. Mothers shape the thoughts of their sons and someday those boys grow up. Hopefully it is the love that shines through and carries their souls, not the color of somebody's fingernails, painted or otherwise.
ReplyDelete"They" would just say we're all gender confused these days. I guess "they" forgot what normal is... :p Love it; great post!
ReplyDeleteIt's silly. Little boys sometimes like playing dolls with their sisters... and little girls sometimes want to play with their brothers' construction sets. It means nothing.
ReplyDeleteNow, if the kid is 14 and stealing his sister's cosmetics, then I'd say he's suffering an identity crisis. But not until then.
One of my dearest friends is gay. I think of him as the brother I never had. He had a difficult time coming out to his family, particularly his children, but they are all OK now and his wife has remarried. I don't think he would have had such a difficult time if society hadn't pegged him as evil. Great post! ReplyDeleteLudicrous is a fun word. I get a lot of use out of it in this day and age.
ReplyDeleteI guess I wasn't straight all those years I wore camouflage and combat boots. There's a lot of men I've known in my life who might be confused hearing that today.
