I have been working on an article for several days now and it is still too long! I almost forgot about my T post because I have been obsessed with getting this 1000+ word article down to 500 words.
Currently I am sitting at 750, so I guess I can think of it as being half way there. Have you all had this problem? What did you do? Did it physically hurt you to cut out parts? :)
I'm okay cutting bits of articles, but when I have to trim my fiction, it hurts. I have a document on my computer where I paste all of my discarded, but loved bits, in the hopes that I'll be able to use them somewhere else. ;O)

Once upon a time, I shriveled at the idea of excising my words from anything. So what I did was cut out some of the extraneous verbiage and post it in a "later" file. I sometimes refer to those notes now and then when I'm looking for new ideas.
ReplyDeleteSo don't kill off all your cute phrases and ideas – save them for later. One more thing. I get kind of wordy (obviously), so in the past I have separated one article into two. Maybe that would help. Good luck!

Yes, editing is hard for me. Make sure you've removed all the 'the's.'

Oh god I hate having to cut articles down. Back in the day when I was first learning to write for the web I had a dickens of a time trying to keep them short. I'm much better at it now.
